This Monograph on the Basic Tenets of Islam attempts to present a concise and coherent account of the key elements of the Islamic faith such as Wahdaniyat (Oneness of Allah), Risaalat (Prophet-hood) and Aakhirat (Day of Reckoning). It also explains the importance of the various proclamations and assertions which Muslims repeatedly make to affirm their total faith in Allah (SWT), his Prophets and the Message of the Qur'an. The book claims that adherence to the norms laid down in the Basic Tenets will strike a balance between material and spiritual aspects of life. It will guide individuals and communities to develop their personality and character in perfect harmony and peace, replacing hatred with love, conflict with cooperation and selfish-ness with self-sacrifice.

The concepts of Aakhirat (Day of Reckoning) and Accountability have been concisely explained. Accountability is fundamental to Islam. It implies that individuals are answerable to Allah (SWT) for all their earthly deeds. They should therefore be careful for nothing can be concealed from the ever watchful eyes of the Omnipresent Allah (SWT). Human beings are warned to avoid sinful acts, particularly major sins, such as Shirk i.e. equating other beings or objects with the One and Only Allah (SWT). On the Day of Reckoning everyone will be brought back to life and will have to account for his/her deeds. None can escape the Day of Reckoning. This is precisely why Islam stresses that Faith in the Oneness of Allah (SWT), in the Prophet-hood of Muhammad (SAWS), and of all other Prophets divinely ordained, should be reinforced by Noble Deeds for redemption on the Day of Reckoning.

It is hoped that this Monograph will enable the reader to understand better the fundamental concepts and the main thrust of the teachings of Islam.
